Scholars recognize the exclusion of marginalized communities in fashion and are motivated to promote inclusivity, a redressing of fashion history. This garment aims to further the conversation on fashion redress by shifting the narrative from Eurocentric to Afrocentric perspectives, by focusing on Black women, acknowledging their role in challenging oppressive systems, and creating new narratives that do not perpetuate further hierarchies, as bell hooks suggest (hooks 2015, 164). This creative work is an initiative to foster/cultivate a more inclusive and equitable narrative that reflects the diverse experiences of Black women and creatives.
This creative works has been submitted to the Costume Society of America for presentation in 2025 and is currently awaiting acceptance.
