About Me

I am a Fashion Designer from Detroit, MI, with a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Fashion Merchandising and Design from Central Michigan University, where I specialized in Fashion Design and minored in Visual Merchandising. Currently, I am pursuing my Master’s degree at Louisiana State University, focusing on Historic Costume with an Apparel Design concentration. My research project, titled “Redressing Fashion History,” seeks to reconceptualize Black culture by reinterpreting Eurocentric silhouettes through an Afrocentric lens. I’m excited to share that the first segment of this series has been accepted for presentation at the 2024 International Textile and Apparel Association Conference on November 22nd.

I firmly believe that craftsmanship deserves greater recognition within the industry and academia. My research not only bridges the gap between history and modernity but also fosters a deeper understanding of culture, costume, and couture. It raises important questions about the manipulation and erasure of history. I advocate for the celebration of Black identity and culture and aspire to inspire future creatives to embrace and elevate these underrepresented narratives.
